Föstudags-fuglamyndir! Mér hefur þótt æ sjaldgæfara að sjá stóra hópa af snjótittlingum, að minnsta kosti á SV-horni landsins, svo það var gaman að rekast á þennan hóp í byrjun janúar. Snjótittlingurinn er elskulegastur allra fugla á vetrum, tístið er svo glatt, flugið skemmtilegt og spektin, iðið og trítlið á grundinni gera þá ótmótstæðilega. Snjótittlingar (Plectrophenax nivalis – sólskríkjur að sumri) eru fræætur og duglegir að bjarga sér ef þeir komast í hverskonar fræ, grasfræ í moði og kornleifar á ökrum, svo næg fæða ætti að standa til boða, svo fremi að ekki séu hagbönn.
Photo Friday: These are favorite birds in winter time: the lovely snow buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis). Their happy tweet, joyful flight and busy running around in the burning cold and gloomy light makes them irresistible. They seem less common than before, at least in my parts of the country. This is perhaps due to climate changes, since big groups migrate from Greenland to Iceland in winter – while others migrate from Iceland to Scotland. Hard to tell. The snow bunting eats various seeds and there is plentiful around in the fields in the area, as long as the snow doesn’t get too deep.
